Climate change is affecting the agricultural ingredients, water resources, supply chains and communities that beverage businesses depend on. To help address these challenges while reducing emissions, Suntory Beverage & Food Europe has published its first Climate Transition Plan.
Climate change is already influencing supply chains, natural resources and the communities connected to them. As a beverage business, our long-term resilience depends on practical action across our value chain and on collaboration with farmers, suppliers, partners, communities and policymakers. This Climate Transition Plan sets out our blueprint for reducing emissions, strengthening resilience and continuing to grow in a way that reflects our commitment to Growing for Good, said Pierre Decroix, Chief Executive Officer, Suntory Beverage & Food Europe.
The plan translates this ambition into a structured roadmap, setting out where SBFE can act directly, where it can influence change with partners, and where progress depends on wider developments in infrastructure, technology, regulation and markets.
It organises SBFE's transition activity across six areas of the value chain:
- operations;
- packaging;
- products and ingredients;
- product transportation;
- suppliers, co-packers and licensees;
- customers
From targets to practical action
Across these areas, the plan identifies 13 transition levers, including improving energy efficiency, switching to lower-carbon energy, electrifying operations, reducing packaging, supporting circularity, choosing lower-carbon ingredients, optimising transport and engaging suppliers on emissions reduction.
Each lever is mapped according to SBFE's level of control or influence, helping to show what is already under way and where external conditions will shape the pace of delivery.
That wider engagement is essential because around 95% of SBFE's greenhouse gas emissions are Scope 3 emissions, occurring outside its direct operations.

Building on progress
SBFE adopts the Science Based Targets initiative-validated climate targets of Suntory Beverage & Food Limited. These include reducing Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030, from a 2019 baseline, and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across operations and the value chain by 2050 or sooner.
Between 2019 and 2025, SBFE reduced its total Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 19% against its 2019 baseline.
Alongside emissions reduction, the plan examines climate-related risks and opportunities for the business. These include heatwaves, water stress, regulatory pressure on CO₂ emissions and opportunities linked to more circular packaging solutions.
A long-term approach
Reducing emissions and strengthening resilience is a long-term effort. Through its Climate Transition Plan, SBFE is setting a clear direction while continuing to work with suppliers, customers, sector organisations and policymakers to support progress across the value chain.
As technologies, regulation and market conditions evolve, SBFE will continue adapting its approach and building on the actions already under way.
