Follow our progress towards carbon net-zero

In our Environmental Vision toward 2050, Suntory aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the entire value chain by 2050. Our Environmental Targets toward 2030 include reducing GHG emissions by 50% from our direct operations as well as by 30% across our entire value chain, based on 2019 levels.

We are already making good progress toward our targets by promoting energy-saving activities, implementing renewable energy solutions, utilizing next-generation infrastructure options, and working together with stakeholders across the value chain. These initiatives are well under way at Suntory Beverage & Food Europe (SBFE).

In France, for example, SBFE has reduced its CO2 emissions by 35% per liter of drink produced over the last 10 years. A particular area of focus is transportation, which accounts for 11% of our carbon footprint. We are optimizing the number and location of our warehouses in order to reduce distances traveled by our products and limit the number of trips made by empty vehicles.

In Spain, SBFE has committed to achieving net-zero emissions for its entire transportation fleet by 2030. All the electricity we use in our factories and offices comes from renewable sources managed through green, clean and renewable energy contracts. Improvements like these have already helped SBFE achieve a 15% reduction in CO2 emissions in Spain between 2015 and 2020.

At SBFE in the UK, 100% of the energy we purchase for our factory comes from renewable sources. In 2020, we invested £13million in a new high-speed filling line for our UK factory. This line uses 40% less energy and water, and has already delivered a 4% overall reduction in energy use at the factory, directly contributing to our CO2 reduction goal.

All Suntory businesses must show they are making progress towards our vision of net-zero emissions, whether through technological investments, procurement policy, or efforts made by individual employees. In all these ways, Suntory is doing what it can to help realize one of humankind’s most audacious goals: a decarbonized society by the middle of this century.
