Suntory Beverage & Food Europe Publishes 2024 Sustainability Report, Advancing Goals Across Health, Packaging, and Climate

Amsterdam, 12 June 2025 – Suntory Beverage & Food Europe (SBFE) has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, outlining progress across health, climate, packaging and social impact as part of its value of Growing for Good.

The report marks the third full edition and highlights how SBFE continues to embed sustainability into its brands, operations and partnerships. In a year marked by economic and environmental pressures, the company remained focused on driving positive change across its value chain.

SBFE has now achieved a 30% reduction in added sugar compared to 2015 and more than tripled the volume of drinks sold with less than 5g/100 ml of sugar from 2015 to 2025, exceeding its initial target. This progress was driven by reformulation of several drinks across key markets. In Spain, Schweppes Indian Tonic was further reformulated in 2024 reducing sugar content to just 2.4g/100ml. In France, Oasis Tropical has seen a gradual reduction in sugar over time, with the latest recipe delivering 15% less than in 2023 and 38% less than in 2006.

On packaging, SBFE increased the use of recycled plastic across its portfolio to 47%, up from 44% in 2023, and remains on course to reach 50% by end of 2025.

This progress was supported by several initiatives across markets, including the transition of 500ml Schweppes bottles in France to 100% rPET. The company also made progress on secondary packaging in 2024 by increasing the recycled content of the shrink film we use in Spain from 50% to 70% and the unprinted film we use in France from 0% to 50%. Together these changes resulted in more than 600 tons of virgin plastic being replaced by post-consumer recycled material in 2024.

The business also achieved a 16.6% reduction in its carbon footprint compared to 2019, including a further 2.4% reduction in 2023 alone, and introduced a new ambition for its Toledo factory in Spain to become water neutral by 2030.

    SBFE CEO Pierre Decroix said:

Our commitment to ‘Growing for Good’ continues to guide how we evolve as a business - from the way we innovate to meet changing consumer expectations, to how we reduce our environmental impact. This year, we’ve taken important steps forward: accelerating sugar reduction, expanding our portfolio of zero and low sugar drinks, and pushing ahead on sustainable packaging and carbon reduction. These aren’t short-term wins, they reflect long-term investment, determination, and the hard work of teams across Europe.

SBFE continued to invest in its people and communities. More than half of employees participated in volunteering initiatives, contributing over 4,000 hours across Europe. The company also donated over €600,000 to local community projects and emergency response efforts, including support following the floods in Valencia, Spain.
