The people of Manchester are set to lead the way on tackling the climate emergency thanks to a new programme that will launch in March 2021.

The Manchester Climate Emergency Programme will roll out a number of hyper-local initiatives aimed at helping households to live more sustainably and will be supported by positive, city-wide communications. Examples include community fridges, urban greening projects and initiatives aimed at promoting at-home energy efficiency.

Funding for the programme has been secured by a collaboration between environmental charity Hubbub, Manchester City Council, the Manchester Climate Change Agency and a consortium of local and national partners including SBF GB&I.

SBF GB&I began working with Hubbub in 2016 to create Love Your Forest an anti-littering campaign that uses creative interventions to drive positive behaviour change, similar to those that will be used in Manchester.

Tackling the global climate crisis will require innovative and collaborative action from the government and all of us in industry, and now, thanks to the Manchester Climate Emergency Programme, individuals will be able to play their part too. Manchester’s pioneering spirit is world renowned and as a business striving for net zero across our entire value chain, we’re delighted to be part of Manchester’s next revolution.

Learnings from the programme will inform the creation of a toolkit of tried and tested methods that can be replicated by other UK cities.

Like Manchester, SBF GB&I has also raised the ambition of its 2050 environmental vision, aiming to achieve net zero
greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain.

To get there, SBF GB&I will, through its local business operations, implement renewable energy solutions, use next-generation infrastructure options and has committed to science-based targets to achieve reductions in emissions by 2030.

Increasing the amount of recycled plastic in our bottles, encouraging consumers and employees to recycle, installing a new energy efficient bottling line and supporting community initiatives such as this one, are just some of the ways SBF GB&I is contributing to a carbon free society.
